Nick Clegg in Valladolid

Nick Clegg and wife Miriam 'pass by unnoticed' on holiday in Valladolid

BRITISH vice-prime minister Nick Clegg has been caught on camera spending his summer holidays in Valladolid.

Along with his wife, Miriam González Durántez, and their children Antonio, Alberto and Miguel, they are spending a few days winding down in the village of Olmedo, where Miriam was born.

They are the latest in what seems to be a series of international politicians choosing Spain for their holidays, after Barack Obama famously spent his summer break on the Costa del Sol with wife Michelle and nine-year-old daughter, Sasha.

But Nick and Miriam are known for being discreet about their private life, and are said to be 'leading a quiet life' in Olmedo and have not sought any special treatment in keeping with Clegg's status as second-in-command in the British government.

In fact, Olmedo's mayor, Alfonso Centeno, did not even know that they had arrived until he saw them by chance walking down the street.

And whilst Miriam, daughter of former mayor of Olmedo José Antonio González Caviedes, and her Lib Dem leader husband were the centre of the world media's attention a few months back, they are 'old news' in Miriam's home town.

They are spending their time catching up with family and friends whilst the kids enjoy a break with their grandparents, but otherwise pass by mostly unnoticed.

Residents who knew they were in town were reluctant to confirm this to reporters, in case their old pals' peaceful break was interrupted.
